The Comet is Coming consists of King Shabaka (Shabaka Hutchings) on saxophone, Danalogue (Dan Leavers) on keyboards and synthesizers, and Betamax (Max Hallett) on drums. The band’s music combines elements of jazz, electronica, funk and psychedelic rock. “Channel the Spirits,” their debut album from 2016, was a Mercury Prize nominee. The band’s music draws on philosophical ideas like creation myths and the origin of life, as well as science fiction, B-movies, and outer space. “Faith in the Life force of the Deep Mystery,” their second full-length album, was released in March 2019. “Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam,” the band’s most recent album, transports listeners to whole other aural and visual realms.
