Michał Barański Masovian Mantra

Michał Barański – guitarist and double bassist, one of the most creative, searching and brave artists of the contemporary Polish jazz scene. His achievements, regardless of club, stage and educational activities, include several dozen albums, produced alongside leaders representing various, sometimes extreme areas of the music scene. The set of albums that make up the musical portrait of Michał Barański could briefly include albums such as “Presence” by the Triology trio with his mentor Brad Terry (2000), featuring Mateusz Kołakowski and Tomasz Torres. “Assymetry” with Zbigniew Namysłowski’s band (2006), “Umiera Piękna” by Aga Zaryan (2007), “Early Reflections” with Bennie Maupin Quartet (2008) and “Sacrum Profanum” with Adam Bałdych’s quartet. Almost all the key names of Polish jazz appear in Michał Barański’s biography, including, in addition to the above-mentioned Zbigniew Namysłowski, also Tomasz Stańko and Michał Urbaniak. Recently he has been studying Indian Carnatic music and has been practicing Indian vocal percussion (konnakol). The artist will appear at the Jazz Around Festival with the Masovian Mantra project.
